Collection: 2001 Original fine art paintings from South Africa

The 2001 Original Fine Art Paintings from South Africa collection marks a pivotal and highly collectible moment in the career of acclaimed South African artist Idalet Emmerentia Haasbroek Pauw. At the end of April 2001, Idalet presented her first solo fine art exhibition, unveiling an extraordinary collection of 100 original paintings. This ambitious debut set the tone for an intense and prolific creative period, during which she set herself the remarkable goal of producing 100 fine art paintings per year.

Over the following seven years, approximately 550 original artworks were professionally photographed, documenting the evolution of her distinctive style and artistic voice. Today, only around 75 original artworks remain, making this collection exceptionally rare and highly desirable for contemporary fine art collectors seeking scarcity, provenance, and long-term investment value.

Before fully committing to her art career, Idalet was a successful businesswoman, owning and managing three antique shops in Stellenbosch, near Cape Town, specialising in antique jewellery and decorative accessories. Her refined aesthetic sensibility was further shaped by her passion for interior decorating. This was beautifully realised in her architect-designed home in Somerset West, which gained widespread recognition after being featured in magazines, newspapers, and interior design publications.

The success of her interior projects ultimately inspired Idalet to change course and dedicate herself entirely to fine art. The 2001 collection reflects this decisive transition—capturing the moment where entrepreneurial discipline met artistic freedom. These original South African fine art paintings stand today as timeless works, offering collectors a rare opportunity to acquire authentic pieces from the very foundation of Idalet’s fine art legacy.
